Your consultation begins with an evaluation of your oral health history, medical history, and any recent x-rays
We may perform a CT scan or take digital X-rays of the mouth to determine exactly where implants may need to be placed and also to determine if a significant amount of jaw bone loss has occurred. This thorough evaluation will determine whether you are a good candidate for dental implants. If you have more questions about what to expect with dental implants, your consultation is the ideal time to get those questions answered.
Patients who do not have enough bone tissue to support dental implants may need to undergo a bone graft before we can move forward with dental implant placement.
If you have damaged teeth that need to be replaced, we will need to perform extraction first. Once the areas are ready to receive the implant, the surgery involves placing a titanium post into the jawbone. We offer sedation dentistry to make the entire procedure more comfortable. The top of the implant is finished with an abutment which can be attached to a dental crown at a later date.
If you are undergoing the TeethXpress procedure in Jacksonville, AL, we will attach a set of dentures to the implants the very same day.
We will provide specific post-op instructions for taking care of your gums and mouth after surgery. Following these directions will support a healthy recovery and minimize pain and discomfort as the anesthesia wears off.
Your dental implants will need to heal for several months as the implant is fused to the jaw bone. This also applies to those who are undergoing the TeethXpress procedure, except that removable dentures are already attached and ready for use on the same day. Under the gum line, the base of the implant must integrate with the jaw to complete the procedure. Once this is complete, you are ready for your permanent dental implant restoration that is visible above the gum line.
